The ADR stands for the Accord Européen Relatif au Transport international des marchandises dangereuses par route (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road), signed in Geneva on September 30, 1957, under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
It governs the safe road transport of hazardous and dangerous materials across signatory countries in Europe and the UK, ensuring the protection of people, property, and the environment.
Annex A (General Provisions and Goods): Covers the classification of dangerous goods (classes 1 through 9, such as explosives, gases, flammable liquids, and toxic substances), packaging requirements, hazard labeling, and consignment procedures.
Annex B (Vehicle and Transport Operations): Governs vehicle construction, equipment requirements (such as fire extinguishers, wheel chocks, and warning signs), crew training, and operational controls.
Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA): Most companies involved in packing, loading, filling, or carrying dangerous goods must appoint a certified DGSA to oversee compliance.
